I was walking to the bank this morning, and I saw a book torn apart on a corner. It's always so strange to me to see books in pieces.

This is the alley right across the street from my work. I always think it's really strange that our office building is nestled into this cliff. That's Telegraph Hill, the one with Coit Tower on the top. And I love that yellow flowering bush/tree.

Today was my 29th birthday, and so I invited folks out to Vine Street Pub, for some good beers and food. I had such a wonderful time with everyone. This little one above is one of the two babies that attended the festivities at the beginning of the evening (yep, must be getting older...) Isn't she awesome and celebrating in style with the slinky that Jess got me from Casa Bonita the night before? I feel so blessed to have so many wonderful people around me who I dig, and who seem to think I'm alright too. So far, I'm liking 29.

Here is one of the four desserts my family and I rounded out meal our with after a very pleasant night dining at Root Down. The waitress put a candle in this one for my birthday because she said it was the best dessert and she was right. Officially it is called the "Banana 'Creme Brulee' Pie with Peanut Butter-Hazelnut Cookie Crust and Whipped Sour Cream. It was soooo good. And, when I blew the candle out, all the shaved chocolate pieced flew across the table.

We've gotten quite a bit of snow here today. Look at the way the snow has piled up against the door! I swept that porch at 10:30 am! Amazing. And it's still coming down steadily. Almost everything got canceled today-- from work to extracurricular events. Colorado has some pretty decent snow clearing devices but when it comes down this hard and this fast, they can't keep up. And you know what, I like it. Tacos and movies for us tonight!

I went to a kid's art show this evening organized by my librarian-ish friend Kristin. One of the best installments were these awesome clay pieces in honor of Dr. Suess. This is just one sweet sample among many awesome pieces.

My parents returned from New Zealand today. This is a bone carved in the shape of a koru which is a Maori symbol for a fern frond, and peace and tranquility and spirituality and regrowth/new beginnings. I usually get a little introspective around my birthday and think about the year past and the year coming and what I hope to happen and my goals for myself so this symbol seems fitting to me now.

The weather down here in Denver has been pretty spring-like, lately. (Not like the blizzard Tessa is supposed to be getting.) It has been so spring-like, in fact, that the flowering trees and bushes are already starting to push out some flowers-- an occurrence which is about 3-4 weeks earlier than normal. I love the change of season, but I'm concerned about drought this summer and, oh yeah, GLOBAL WARMING. Speaking of, I took this picture as we walked to go pick up my newly purchased bike.

Along Hwy 36 between Boulder and Denver are a herd of cows. About a month ago, tiny baby cows started showing up so I like to say hi to them when we drive by. I took this picture while my friend was driving so I didn't get the best shot of them, but they're still dang cute.

Note: I am breaking the rules and posting several pictures from the same day, partially because it was a very important day with many beautiful things in it, and partially because I was so exhausted when I got back to the city that I didn't take pictures for a few days and am only now getting around to posting these. That's life.

Renwood Old Vine Zinfandel. T drank this on our first date during which I subjected him to a game of Scrabble (after which his friends purportedly referred to me as "Scrabble Girl"). We call it "Falling-in-Love Wine" now, even though I drank something else not as tasty that night. We've been together 2.5 years today! Yowza!
