When Steph was here we went to Palo Alto to D's friend's birthday. We were supposed to go to a bay front park, but it was too windy. So we had one of the loveliest picnics I've been to in a long time on their back deck. It was wonderful, especially because the weather in the city was foggy and windy, and here it was perfect!

Finished Purse!, originally uploaded by Stephanova.

I finally finished this dang purse. I sewed the liner and strap, and made the buttons using this cool button maker that lets you cover buttons with fabric. I love the button maker. I want to make cloth covered buttons for EVERYTHING now.

Jonesy's Eat Bar. Jess, Pete and I spent some time here this evening.

There is something kind of quaint about this picture. It reminds me of a children's book which might follow the lives of each of the people in the picture. Who is that woman up in the window? Why is she so hot to have the window open? Who is the man dressed in all white on the corner? Why all white? Who is the woman in the orange jacket? Was she walking her dog(s) and then ran into those guys on the patio? Where is that dog going? Whose flashy orange and black bike is that? (Actually, that's the only question I know the answer to-- it's Pete's.)

This is the two volume Grimm's Fairy Tales that I've had since I was a kid. Although the stories are very often gruesome (I particularly remember one where the step-sisters made a girl take a bath in boiling water...or maybe that was a dream), I loved them as a kid, especially the pictures.

There must have been 7 or 8 Gold Finches in the Aspen grove outside the living room window in the house where I'm staying. I'm not sure what they were feasting on. Wikipedia wasn't sure either, but another site said Gold Finches are commonly found in "fields, groves and thickets." Thicket---now that's a word I need to use more often. Almost as good as brambles.

It was quite a rainy day today. I was bummed about not being able to BBQ and play in the park, so T and I went to Q's World Barbeque in Cherry Creek. They have lots and lots and lots of sauces that you can try-- which for T and I was kind of like a dare.

For our birthdays, D and I got each other Nintendo DSi's. They have a touch screen face recognition capabilities. Mostly I like playing my Brain Training game and I'm still trying to get into my RPG, Dungeon Explorer. I'll be very excited when we get our second copy of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicals: Ring of Fates and we can play that together, as FF is my all time favorite game franchise.

This beautiful butterfly landed on the railing right in front of us in the rain forest dome. There were a ton of butterflies all around, flitting right past us as we walked up the five story spiral ramp to the rain forest canopy.

At the bottom of the rain forest you can walk underneath the flooded Amazon floor. Some of these fish were HUGE! This is a smaller one.

For my birthday I took the day off work (4 day weekend baby!) and went to the California Academy of Sciences with Ingert, his girlfriend, my dad and my step-mom. It was fantastic! Steph, you HAVE to go here when you visit!

My niece, Zoe!!!!! Okay, she's not really my niece since I don't have a sister. But, I claim her!!!! She's my cousin, Heather's, babe! I love her so much! She's a little drippy in this pic because of her cute baby cold.

My first fruit salad of the season. I made a big bowl of it thinking I'd have it for a couple of days. Before I knew it, that fruit salad was gone!!! This means I ate 4 kiwis, 1 mango, 1 can of pineapple and a bunch of assorted berries in the course of...oh, about a half an hour. Good thing it was fruit and not a pan of brownies--which I may or may not have eaten while hiding (kinda) in my closet in high school and for which, I may or may not continue to be shunned by various members of my family.

Today was full of planting. First, we planted these pots (and some others that didn't make it into the picture) with herbs and flowers. Then, after some naps, we planted seeds for carrots, beets, radishes, lettuce, beans and squash in our community garden plot. We also transplanted some basil. In a few weeks we'll add in tomatoes and peppers. I love summer.

When we were little kids, my brother and I rode our bikes to Huck Finn Pond. Moose fished and I'd read (and tanned [read: burned] - I was a slave to beauty back then.) It seemed like a really long bike ride. I never wanted to go home due, in no small part, to the fact that we'd have to again face the ferocious dogs that chased us on the way to the pond. (So began my lifelong battle with the fear of dogs.) On my dog walk today, I realized this park is actually rather far from the ranch, well over 10 miles, maybe 15. Not to shabby for elementary and middle schoolers.
