One of my best friend's mom sent me an origami Christmas light kit several Christmases ago. I folded all the origami boxes and slipped them over the lights and now it lives on top of the living room TV. It helps remind us to turn off the power strip that the TV and X-Box are plugged into, along with providing overall cheer to the room and bringing Japanese Christmas tidings year round.

This picture is stunning! I love it. Can you do this with any light set and just make the origami boxes? That would be a fun project...
ReplyDeleteYes. The kit included a string of Christmas lights, origami paper and instructions on how to make an origami box. Then you make the boxes. If you are familiar with origami boxes then you know the hole you blow into to inflate the box? You just insert the light into that hole after it's inflated. It's that easy, and it WAS a fun project!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this picture. Not to be a Mom, but can you use any Xmas lights...In other words, are there fire hazards involved?
ReplyDeleteThese are just the plain old colored lights. I wouldn't use the big bulbed lights. The light itself doesn't even touch the paper, because the green plastic base of each light creates a buffer, and even if the light did touch the paper I don't think it would be hot enough to start a fire. We've left them on for entire evenings with no problems.
ReplyDeleteAs I've looked back through our posts, these one really stands out. I always stop and look at it for a while.
