I apologize for another wholly self-absorbed post. I've been working on the painting above, which is due on Tuesday for critique, for the last week. The assignment was to take a 3"X3" magazine clipping and extend the composition.

My photo doesn't do Haley Hasler justice. Her paintings, part of the "Dress Code" exhibit at the Fort Collins Art Museum, were incredible. They're self-portraits which reference history and religious imagery while also showing Hasler in her role as a harried mother. I really love how wonky and silly they are.

Weird viney sculpture things in the nubby trees in front of City Hall. They were putting them up this morning when I walked by. It looked like they were using willow branches.

The "Zero" aka the most best, and kinda the smelliest bus in Denver. But, it runs by our house and it goes downtown so it's kind of awesome.

Sculpture outside the Denver Public Library (across from the Denver Art Museum.) I just looked it up. It is called "Lao Tzu" and it was made by Mark di Suvero... who is from Shanghai, but went to Berkeley and has a ton of sculptures in CA, apparently!

I went outside and was amazing to see a huge fire burning near our property. It turns out it was the old ice house they used before refrigeration; They'd load huge ice chunks on trains and pack them with saw dust. Of course the remaining saw dust turned the building into tinder box.

I call this "Drinking Away the Pain."
Yesterday, while sharpening a knife, I sliced open the knuckle on my left index finger really bad. Probably my worst cut ever. Dr. Dad told me how to wrap it up, and predicted that it was going to hurt. He prescribed Tylenol and a glass of wine. It didn't hurt yesterday too badly, but today it hurt like the dickens. So I took some more Tylenol and had a glass of wine with dinner. Funny though, I couldn't hold my hand still for the picture...
Note the extremely untidy shelves in the background. I kind of like them that way; they look used. Don't tell D.

This is right across from my trolley stop, next to Pier 29, on the Embarcadero. First of all, I love that I wait at a trolley stop every day, and secondly, this place creeps me out. It's a circus theater/dinner thing. It's been around for years, so apparently it does well. But look at those faces! Yikes.

Look what I found today!!! I don't know from what kind of bulb these emerge (tulip? crocus?) but they do, indeed, emerge. Spring will spring again!! These fill me up with hope.

I have always wanted a pair on red high heels. This weekend I finally bought them! I keep trying them on and loving them. Hey, even a rancher gal needs to get spiffed up every once in a while.

The fish platter at the "make your own sushi" party that we hosted last night for my best friend's birthday. I cut up all that fish, and there are some left-overs if anyone wants to come over and make some sushi! Unfortunately the salmon and octopus are gone, but we have some of everything else.

I got to visit my best buddy from elementary through high school today. We spent many hours in the photo dark room together in high school and she continues to be an amazing photographer. This is a lamp she made from old slides of her Dad when he was young.

We took a stroll over to the urban community garden we hope to have a plot in this summer. It is next to a school, and in fact, half of the garden is farmed by students who sell the produce every week to the community. Right now, in the fallow season, however, the garden looks pretty derelict.

Guess where this is? My house. Ha!
After brunch, T and I walked by a local shop and these were displayed. And, so we had to go in and buy them. Now, they adorn our balcony and bring me joy every single time I see them. My stars!

My favorite movie theater in Denver: The Mayan. We were thinking about seeing a movie here tonight, but decided that instead of seeing "The Wrestler" (the only movie we haven't see there, yet), we would just go home and catch up on BSG. :)

One of my favorite buildings in the city. I want to work in one of the corner offices.
It seems that, because work is so intense and I'm there so long, I'm only taking night pictures lately. On one hand it's a little limiting. On the other, SF is so pretty at night I kind of love it. No picture would be able to capture what it's like to be in the forest of lights that is the Financial District at night, but it won't stop me from trying.

The snow last night left a nice 3 inch dusting that stuck to everything organic. Add a gorgeous sunny morning and you get this! I love it when it snows and covers up all the brown grass. Of course, this is Colorado, so it's all melted now.
